Promote your Business, Promote your Website
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Website promotion
You opened a business several years ago and you were not pleased with the number of customers you had. You heard about the Internet, websites, millions of surfers, thousands of visitors per day and said: “WOW! I’ve got to have a website for my business!”

You chose a name for your website. You felt you had to compromise about the name since the original name you had in mind was obviously taken. You paid a friend to build a website with all the works. The friend introduced you to the wonderful tool of Google Analytics to track down how many visited your website and to display several interesting reports.

Every night before bed you used to open Google Analytics and see how many visitors came in today. For several weeks the report showed one or two visitors. The first one was YOU and every time the second appeared you used to get a report several days later from your niece that she visited your website.

So where are all those thousands of visitors everybody has been talking about? Isn’t the website attractive enough?

A website with no visitors and with beautiful graphics and interesting content means absolutely nothing. A website with no graphics at all and terrible content and with visitors coming in on a daily basis is a winner. In other words, a website with no traffic is as good as dead.

You decided not to give up and find ways to resurrect your “dead” website and increase the website traffic. You started to talk to people, bought some books, read some articles on the web and you found some interesting stuff.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
Search engines are in essence the key factor to increase website traffic. Search engine optimization is a complex of methods to make your website more favorable by search engines.

The fascinating world of keywords:
The search engines have a very complex association relationship between keywords and web pages. A search engine user places keywords and receives the associated web pages. If the web pages in your website are associated with keywords that are not queried a lot by users then expect low traffic. If the web pages in your website are associated with powerful keywords, keywords that are searched a lot, then expect higher traffic. The problem with powerful keywords is that they usually come with powerful competitors.

Internet campaigns:
There are many companies that supply on demand Internet campaigns. Most of them use SEM – Search Engine Marketing. SEM in Google, named AdWords, is also based on keywords. You set the keywords you want your web pages to be associated with. You pay Google per click. The payment system may be different using other services, like fixed payment or payment per impression.

Social Media Optimization (SMO):
SMO is a lovely method to increase traffic and a swell method to expand your knowledge in your own fields of expertise. Picture Social Medias like enormous forums of all specialists in a very narrow and specific field talking, sharing ideas, and most of all promoting themselves or their business.

Now when you enter Google Analytics you can see that your niece could not have been so busy. You can see the number of unique visitors and the number of visits and their location worldwide.

Good luck to you.
